Deal or No Deal?

Remember all that Olay Ribbons Body Wash we have been getting for free or very cheap lately? Well, I used mine for the first time a couple of weeks ago and it left my skin, well for lack of a better word, oily! I thought it was way too heavy. Fast forward to yesterday, my kids were taking a bubble bath in my soaker tub. I let them use some body wash as bubble bath. Well I was getting my youngest out and dressed in the next room and they dumped 1/2 a bottle of Ribbons in before I could stop them. After this is what was left...
EWWW! Now granted they probably used more than intended, but this gelatinous goo took a while to scrub out of my tub. It doesn't just wipe out of rinse off, it sticks to the tub! I think this qualifies as a "No Deal!" I probably won't be buying this again. Has anyone else tried their Ribbons? What did you think?

Rite Aid Recap

Only two days left of Game of Life. Please leave a comment if you have won anything besides cruise entries and extra game tickets! I was hoping to hear of some winners, I hope the winning game pieces weren't "thrown away" by someone. My Rite Aid was doing "double tickets" today. I have also heard of extra tickets being given out at some stores. I suspect this will continue over the next two days, swing by if you have a chance.
  1. Rebates added: $18.25 from Caregivers Marketplace. They are no longer doing rebates for Huggies, but Cottonelle flushable wipes and Balmex diaper cream are included. Click here for more info.
  2. Spent $26.45 from my cash in my envelope
  3. Retail amount to date: $476.03
  4. Amount spent out of pocket in 2010: $105.60

*By the way, I was lured to Walgreens this week by the money making Excedrin deal only to find no Excedrin in stock. Another reason I love Rite Aid, limits on SCRs so items are almost always in stock!

Store Secrets: Rite Aid 101

Here are the secrets to one of my favorite stores! First of all review this post.

Rite Aid has program called Single Check Rebates (SCR). Every month they have rebates on 100+ products. These might be anything from full prices to $1. Each month (close to, but not actually 1st-31st) the release a rebate catalog that lets you know what rebates are available. Usually the rebate is paired with a sale price one week and that is the week you want to buy that item. After you are done shopping, simply sign up for SCR program
here. Then log in and enter three numbers from the top of your receipt. At the end of the month, be sure to request your check. (Only do this when you are done shopping, because you can only do it once per month.) It is that simple, no mail, no UPC codes, no hassle. Rite Aid even emails you the status of your rebates and rebate check! When your check comes, you can cash it and use it anywhere you want! (I usually recycle it back at Rite Aid!)

Other reasons to love Rite Aid
  1. They release $5/$25 coupons on various sites regularly.
  2. Every month they have different video value coupons. You earn these coupons by watching short videos (commercials). They are usually high value coupons that can't be found elsewhere. You can stack them with manufacturer's coupons because they are Rite Aid coupons. Earn 20 points by watching these videos and you can get a $5/$20 coupon. This only takes about 15 minutes.
  3. They allow you to stack Rite Aid coupons (from video values, in ads, and store booklets) with manufacturers. Use both coupons with SCR and you get a lot of free/money makers!
  4. Besides cash rebates, they also frequently have gift packs you can earn with purchases. Some promos will even earn you Rite Aid gift cards. (see current SCR catalog for details)
  5. If after 1 month after it was sent, a check or gift doesn't arrive, their customer service team will send a replacement. All it takes is a simple phone call.
  6. They run lots of sweepstakes, also usually through the SCR catalog.

HOUSE PARTY

I have been wanting to post about this awesome site for weeks, but I decided to wait and see how it actually played out...so answer these three questions.
  1. Do you like parties?
  2. Do you like getting free stuff?

  3. Do you like being the first to get new products and share them with friends?

If you entered yes, then I have a site for you...houseparty.com.

House party is a marketing site that companies use to produce new product lines or ideas. If you want a chance at your own party, all you do is visit the site, choose which party (or parties) you might like to host and fill in the online application. It takes about ten minutes. (be sure to be creative and specific on your ideas!) Then you wait to see if you are chosen. If you are, you get sent a package of freebies to shares with your friends. How fun and easy! I just finished my Huggies Pull-Ups party. I had 7 adults and 20 kids at my house. We had a playdate, lunch, and shared the information. What a great way to learn about new products and get coupons. I am definitely going to try for another party. Here are the pics:

We made "garbage bag salad". The kids dump ingredients into a bag and then shake to coat it well.

Each kids and adult got to make their own pizza creation!

Oh Henry Bars for the take home treats!

Of course, the freebie packages, DVDs, and a couple door prize gifts!
Has anyone else done a house party? What did you think?

Macys President's Day Sale: Proceed with Caution

Confession: I was NOT frugal today. I went to Macy's and bought these...because I love them and I was afraid if I waited they would be gone! (Okay they were 48% off, but still a lot for me!)

I did manage to score this sweater for me at only $4.24! EVERYTHING in the entire store is 30-60% (or more) off of retail. There was also a whole rack of boys coats that were $9.99 (before another 15% off).

Click on over to http://www.macys.com to get an additional 15% off coupon to use through Monday. Be careful though, I guarantee there are some "must haves" there. :)

Another Reason to go to Rite Aid...

Actual book rebate form will be available in the P&G insert on 2/21. Details are here. (Thanks, hip to save!)

Rite Aid 2/7-2/13

Friday Food for Thought: Beware of the PDF

Just this week, Albertsons told me that they "no longer accept internet coupons that allow for a free item" when I tried to use the spend $100 get a free gallon of milk coupon. I believe this stemmed from people copying the $1 oatmeal coupons last week. Also Rite Aid was very scrutinising of my interent coupons. The cashier, one of my favs, showed me a list of fraudulent coupons out there that they were supposed to refuse. They were for large amounts like $9 off razors and $7.50 off diapers, but the rest of the coupon looked very similar to legit ones from reliable sources. My message in this rant, be careful. A few fraudulent coupons can ruin it for everyone! It is only a matter of time before they will just pull all internet coupons, most of which are higher value than inserts. Make sure you are getting your coupons from a reliable couponing site or the companies actual site. Please don't use random "email" or "pdf" files that are floating around in cyperspace, especially if they are manufacturer's coupons and if you know they might be fraudulent. The stores will not get paid for these and lose revenue. Enough lost revenue could alter their coupon policy. Here are a few tips for using internet coupons:
  1. Print with colored ink (I had a few printed in black and white because my color was out...these are heavily scrutinized.)
  2. Whenever possible use a "clipped" coupon. Sometimes identical coupons are in the insert and they are generally accepted much easier. (However, many times the internet coupons are of higher values.)
  3. Only print your fair share. When you run to several other computers to print "two" off and then use them all together it draws suspicion. Plus, it take the opportunity to print that coupon from someone else.
  4. If you suspect a coupon to be fraudulent, do not use it. Cashiers will trust you more, if they know you are an honest couponer.
  5. Respect the cashiers/managers decision, don't make a scene over a couple of dollars. Remember they are just doing their job, they could also face reprimanding for taking bad coupons. Also if you have a bad or especially GOOD situation report it. A lot of times the employees might get special bonuses/recognition for being a GOOD employee.

Last of all remember couponing is a game. If you play the game unfairly or cheat, you lose and eventually the game is finished for everyone. Let's all keep the game fun!

Food Storage Item of the Week

I am going to try and highlight good food storage items once each week. This week of course there is the Quaker oatmeal at $1 each, when you buy in multiples of 5, but I am going to highlight Arrowhead water. Arrowhead water has a catalina deal running at both Fred Meyer and Albertsons through 2/7/2010. Buy 2 get $2, buy 3 get $3, buy 4 get $5. Both stores have the 24 packs priced at 2 for $7 (Albertsons through tomorrow, Fred Meyer through Saturday). There are also two great coupons to go with this deal:

  • Save $1 on 2 24 packs from January All You (Total out of pocket=$4.00 for 2 packs!)

  • Get one free Arrowhead 700 ml 6 pack when you buy any two 24 packs available at coupons.com (sidebar) (Total out of pocket=$5.00 for two 24 packs and a 6 pack!)

  • Or buy 4 packs, use both coupons and get four 24 packs and a 6 pack for $8!

*My Albertsons was out of stock, but I got a rain check to honor the price for when it comes in.

Rite Aid Video Values Coupons

The February coupons are up at video values at riteaid.com. Lots of high value coupons you can earn by watching short videos. Remember these are Rite Aid coupons, so they can be stacked with manufacturer's coupons, rebates, and other promos. My favorites for this week are:
  • $1 off Cottonelle (on sale this week for $6.49)
  • $1 off Welch's Juice (on sale for $3 this week)
  • $1 off Garnier shampoo/conditioner/styler, stack with manu to get product for 0.50 this week

Monthly Deals: February

Things you can get on a good deal in February:

  • Electronics: the new models of MP3s, DVDs, and digital cameras are released. Take this chance to save on last year's models.
  • Fragrances: just in time for Valentine's Day, cheaper fragrances.
  • Humidifiers
  • Candy (look for great deals on candy and flowers the day AFTER Valentine's)
  • President's Day Sales!
