Rite Aid Gift of Savings

The Rite Aid Gift of Savings Program is back. From 11/26 until 12/25, enter all of your receipts on the Single Check Rebate page. Qualifying purchases will earn you gift certificates, up to $20! The breakdown is $25-50 for $5 gift certificate, $50-$100 for $10 gift certificate, and over $100.01 for $20 gift certificate. It looks like this year, they will be calculating the eligible totals after instant coupons :(. However, enter all your receipts and if you need to buy some extra presents, cards, or decor, buy them at Rite Aid to get your total up. You can go here to get all the information. Happy Savings!

Holiday Gift Buying Savings

Are you loving all these shopping deals floating around, appears Cyber Monday is going to be Cyber Week. I want to give you a couple of pointers for gift shopping. Before you buy anything online look at...
  1. ebates This site is a rebate site for online shopping. They give you a percentage back on your purchases. Just log in and enter the store through their links. If you are a new customer you also will get some sort of joining bonus, used to be $5.
  2. retail me not This site gives you coupon codes for online shopping. It never hurts to see if there is a code for free shipping or other incentives out there.

*Another secret I stumbled upon this week, look through your coupon stash/wallet for "lost" coupons, coupon codes, or gift cards. I probably found close to $100 in gift cards and redeemable coupon codes, that I had stashed to be used later. No time like now to use these cards to get great gifts for friends and family. (Hint: check your husband's wallet too, I found a $20 Walmart card and a Hollywood Video card...still trying to figure out how to use that one).

*Check your email inbox for coupon codes and printables.

*Be on the lookout for those awesome $5 coupons from Hallmark in select magazines. They will score you some freebies or cheapies. I used mine to get Webkinz, priced at $5.99 each!

*Also, have you ever signed up for Kmart Kids Birthday Club? Just register your kids birthday and Kmart will send out a $5 coupon for either the store or online. The birthday kids also get a "birthday pack" with crayons, stickers, a crown, and some coupons. I used mine yesterday to score a couple of nearly free toys!

*I have also been doing some shopping from flash sites. These site offer huge discounts on name brand items and the "sales" change every day or two. There are a lot of signup offers and sign up bonus floating around. Go ahead and sign up, get your credit and then wait until you see a deal for you! Here are a few favorites:

  1. beyond the rack Get $10 credit when you sign up
  2. no more rack, Get $10 credit when you sign up. I really like this site so far!
  3. modnique $5 credit when you sign up and use code star (expires today) to get an extra $10 off.
  4. ruelala
  5. gilt

Rite Aid Recap

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you are having a great day, I hit the Black Friday sale early this morning. The coupon hating cashier/manager was working, so of course my total was about $3 more than expected because of "her rules." Still though, some great deals!
  1. Didn't add any rebates
  2. Spent $11.31 from my cash envelope
  3. Retail Amount to Date: $2432.04
  4. Amount spent out of pocket in 2010: $240.90

*Just a clarification, I do not count my + Ups as rebates or cash, I just use them as regular coupons, so they are just used to drive down my total amount. I do not count them twice.

Black Friday Deals

Remember when Black Friday was just a day...not a whole weekend/week long event. Well the deals are coming, so fast it is hard to keep up. The best resource I found was the Pacific NW bloggers link list here. I am also working on the Rite Aid ad and will have it for you shortly. Don't forget to pick up a Thanksgiving paper (early) to get all the ads (although many stores are open on Thanksgiving now too.) Are you doing any early morning shopping? What must have deals do you see?

My customer service experience

Like everything else with this house...the washer and dryer have a story, I am not sure if this makes me determined, annoying, or crazy, but I FINALLY got my Evergreen Maytags!

It all began when we bought our first washer and dryer as a married couple, a refurbished set from a 2nd hand dealer. They worked great for nearly six years and then the dryer broke. We went looking to fix/replace it and I came across the Steam Maytag Evergreen Series and fell in love. They were so beautiful and had so many features! However, our rental couldn't accommodate the height of front loaders, so we got another refurbished dryer to get us through until we got to the new house. Greg said, "We can just get new ones when we move delivered right to our door..." (um, keep that sentence in mind as you read on.)

Well, flash forward to this summer and my washer started leaking, a little more with every load until eventually I had to mop between loads (on a positive the laundry room floor was sparkling!). It was time, so August we went looking only to discover my coveted Evergreen were discontinued...(people preferred white due to the economy.) We were settled on a white steam set. I came home and researched just a little and found out that set got horrible reviews, like 2-3 out of 5 stars from everyone who owned one. I also research the evergreen ones and found that they got 4.5-5 stars and everyone loved them! I looked around and there were several available to buy online at closeout prices, so Greg said, go ahead. When I found a set of pedestals on ebay at half price, I was convinced I could get them! This was August 20...

Washer: I found immediately on ebay for a STEAL and it would ship within ten days, perfect...buy it now!

Dryer #1: Ordered it online, from company #1 in New York/India, with the cheapest price and free shipping (showing IN STOCK on their website), but it is not in stock, so didn't technically order it.

Meanwhile called lots of online stores in between, who had it IN STOCK on their website, but didn't really have one :(

Dryer #2: Called company #2, they had one. "Mam, if we didn't have one it wouldn't show up in my computer." Ordered, check! Meanwhile company #1 calls back, they have one now, but I don't need them because I have one. Half hour later company #2 calls back, they apparently didn't have one...so I recall company #1 and order that dryer.

August 28: Pedestals arrive! Ebay washer guy calls and says that the washer will not be in stock until Sept 4 (I guess Buy It Now, technically does not mean he had it???)

September 1, we move and I have NO WASHER or DRYER and am doing my laundry at Debbie's (mother-in-laws)

Sept 12: Dryer arrives...

In less than perfect condition...so I recall the company and they order me a replacement, (dryer #3). In the meantime, I continue to research and find another dryer, which "If it is on our website we have it." I order that one too (dryer #4). Greg is like, "What are we going to do when 2 dryers arrive?" And we are still waiting for the "Buy it Now" Ebay washer to arrive at the seller's appliance store. It will absolutely be there by September 17. In the meantime, hauling all my laundry to Debbie's...still.
September 27, washer finally arrives and is shipped. Dryer #4 is now not in stock (big shocker) and dryer #3 is no longer available. So I spent most of the next couple of days calling every store that sells Maytag from Portland to Medford, online appliance stores, and Maytag themselves, who consequently are of little help?!? Finally I do another search and come across one in Boston MA at an appliance store (he actually has access to 5!). I ordered, now longer worrying about price. He was a little hesitant to send it that far, but agreed to after I told my sad tale.
October 4: Washer arrives! The truck can't make it up our driveway and he leaves it on the side of the road, but it is beautiful and I love it! Greg brings up the old dryer and I now have a functioning laundry room again!
October 14: Dryer #5 arrives

as a scratch and dent model! We accept this one conditionally, but after taking it out just keep noticing more scratches and dings. We paid top dollar for this one and I don't want it banging up before my kids even touch it! Sadly, we file a claim with the store and the shipping company and look for Dryer #6. The appliance store doesn't have access to the other 4, they have been shipped to Ohio. Finally after 2 weeks of waiting, the appliance store gets word that they can get one of the ones from Ohio, so as soon as it gets back to MA, the can ship it to me. I am still not sure why it had to go back to Boston, but it did. The sales guy put signs all over it that said, "DO NOT DROP, DO NOT STACK!" and it made it here safely!
Flash forward to yesterday, I got my dryer! (They now deliver at Greg's office so he can inspect and they don't have to bring a semi up the hill.) It was scratch/dent/defective free and I finally, after three months have my Evergreen Maytags.

Don't they look so beautiful with my counters and cabinets! I am loving doing laundry! It is so much quieter and quicker than before.

And today the shipping company finally picked up, dryer #5 from my garage. Well, Greg and his dad drove it to the bottom of the hill and put it in the semi :)

The moral of the story:

  1. Good customer service a long way, we love Kahians and the way the answered every call and email! Small appliances stores have far superior communication and customer service than large internet vendors.
  2. Buy it now does not mean "I have it now"
  3. Just because it is on the website IN STOCK does not mean the company actually has it. I think all the companies were fighting over the same few dryers at the distributors.
  4. Being patient and persistent always pays off.
  5. Everything is better in green.

Fred Meyer Challenge Butter Deal

Here is the scope on the Challenge Butter Deal. This weeks ad has Challenge Butter 3 for $5, you can used 0.55/1 from coupons to come to sweeten the deal. Once you buy 3...the packages have coupons inside for 0.75/1 any Challenge Butter and $1/1 Tuscan Butter Tub. So, after buying three...do this scenario for cheap butter.

  • Buy 3 Challenge Butter
  • Buy 3 Tuscan Butter
  • Use Fred Meyer 3 for $5 coupon (this weeks ad)
  • Use Fred Meyer Tuscan Butter 99 cents coupon (monthly coupon book)
  • Use 3 0.75/1 from package
  • Use 3 $1/1 from package (cashier will have to adjust it to 99 cents)
  • =$2.75 for all the butter above! (Plus you have more coupons in your packages)

*Please note the Tuscan tubs contain garlic and herbs, so not really a "cooking" or "jam" type spread, but great for rolls. Also the Roseburg Fred Meyer was out of "salted" butter until tomorrow. Deal runs through Saturday. Tuscan Butter deals will go for a few more weeks.

Free Glasses...just pay shipping and handling

I was so excited when I heard about this deal, because my current glasses are cracked and have been handled more than once by a two year old. Coastal Contacts is offering free glasses today, (first 10,000...one per household) just go to their facebook page and like them and you will get the code to enter at their site. You will have to pay a shipping and handling charge, which is around $10-$15. You do need your current prescription and not all lenses are covered at 100%. Unfortunately, I am so blind my glasses would still cost $99, but down from the $279 they started at, so if you need new glasses it is worth a try!

Costco Comparison

I did a little comparison shopping at Costco this week, here is what I found. We were OUT of toilet paper, usually our family prefers Cottonelle, so I looked for a coupon (only found 0.50/1) an headed to the store. I bought a 12 pack for $11.99 minus coupon (highway robbery!!). Later at Costco I saw an 30 roll pack of Charmin for $18.99. Score one for Costco!
Baby Wipes(for you Nicole): last week at Albertsons after coupons and catalinas I was able to get 1080 Pampers wipes for $14.95. Costco had 1000 Huggies wipes for $23.99 and 900 Kirkland brand wipes for $18.99. I have yet to try Kirkland brand, but I have heard they are superior, however if you are not brand specific I still have to give this one to Albertsons.

Pop Tarts: Albertsons has this deal were you buy 10 packs of 12 count Pop Tarts, get 2 movie tickets and $10 in concessions cash. They are priced at $2.50 and you can use the $1/3 coupon from kelloggs.com. Plus they have a catalina for buy 5 get $4 catalina. So, you would spend after coupons and catalinas $14 for 120 Pop Tarts (not including the movie items) at Costco 48 Pop Tarts are $7.89. Always assuming you need 120 Pop Tarts...I would be sick of them for sure by then.
Final Score: Costco: 1, Albertsons: 2!

Rite Aid Recap

Check the bottom of your receipts! I just noticed my 20% off Gold+ level discount is through 12/31/2011!! The bad part is, I continue to forget this...so when I buy items not on sale, like the Fructis Sleek and Shine Blow Dry Kit, I forget to factor in the sale price. So, I got it for a 20% off, but because I was under the $15 for Garnier purchases, I didn't get the $5 + UP. Hopefully it is a preggo brain thing and I will remember next time. I am excited to try this product though and review it for you...have to be after the baby comes though! :)
A couple of things to keep in mind. There is a new video values video which will get you a coupon for the Flu coupon booklet. Just watch the video and then take the coupon to the pharmacist and they will give you the booklet with over $120 of Rite Aid (stackable!!) coupons.
Rumor has it that the Gift of Savings program is coming back at the end of November. This is a great program and nearly every purchase qualifies. More details to come soon.
Recap:
  1. Added $10 from a gift card (Dental Health one)
  2. Spent $7.29 on this gift card
  3. Retail amount to date: $2229.21
  4. Amount spent out of pocket in 2010: $208.95

House Party: Perler Beads!

House Party is a fun and exciting program that sends you party kits and lets you share freebies, samples, prizes, and coupons with family and friends. (To read my posts about previous House Parties and more info click here). On Saturday, we held a house party for Perler Beads. I made it a mother/daughter party. Here are the "bead kits" each kid got. House Party provided everything but the bag.

Table set up with iron...you iron the beads to fuse them together.

A party must have snacks, veggies, fruit, and chocolate chip cookies.

A couple of the finished projects. The kids LOVED doing this! It was a fun afternoon, with friends. Looking forward to another one.
Want to have your own House Party? Currently you can apply for:
  1. EA SPORTS Active 2 Fitness Through Fun House Party
  2. Kraft Food First Taste: Athenos
  3. American Ninja Warrior 2 Sneak Peak

*House party is a little slow around the holidays, but there are lots events coming, and previews are available for parties through March!

Good Luck! I have nothing but positive things to report about House Party, what a great program! My husband and kids even look forwards to helping me host them!
