Changes

I am in the midst of my big move and when I get to my new house, we do not have internet. So for the time being I am going to be unable to post. Please continue to follow the other great blogs on my sidebar. When I get internet up and life back to normal, I will post again. Watch for some giveaways and new ideas when I come back. Thanks for reading, Dawn

Rite Aid Recap

It is a great week at Rite Aid, with lots of freebies and cheap diapers, as I am sure you know. My life is insane right now and my computer time is limited. I am moving/garage sale prepping/getting ready for school. So, until my life is a little less hectic, I would like to encourage you to visit my favorite blogs to get the deals.
I did stop by Rite Aid to get the free jello, body wash, and cash in on Cottonelle and Pull-ups. The + Ups print once for each pack of diapers you are buying, rather than one per household. What a great deal. I am also waiting to see what SCR they qualify for (hopefully both of the Kimberly Clark spend $25 get $5, but the wording is tricky, even though Pullups are in the picture, so we will see.)
Also I am at the 20% off mark on all my non sale Rite Aid purchases! Yeah! Even the newspapers rang up 20% off.
  1. Added $19.97 from my July SCR
  2. Spent $19.45 out of my recycled cash
  3. Retail amount to date: $1750.04
  4. Amount spent out of pocket in 2010: $199.58

Rite Aid Recap

I committed the cardinal couponing sin this week, I threw away $3 worth of + Up Rewards! I usually cut them off right when I come home and put them in my Rite Aid envelope, but for some reason I didn't and then after I entered my receipt online, I threw it away. Sadly, the garbage man has also come and gone. Let this be a lesson and double check your receipts!

I also am totally confused on what Reward Level I am on, on my Wellness card, but I am getting 10% off all non sale items. So that is great I have only gotten one of those 10% off coupons. Have you guys done better?

  1. Didn't add any rebates this week
  2. Spent $26.59 out of my recycled cash.
  3. Retail amount to date: $1693.73
  4. Amount spent out of pocket in 2010: $199.58

Costco Comparison

I went to Costco and I was extremely overwhelmed to say the least. (Sidenote: I have not been in a Costco for like 15 years and I haven't been in a Sam's Club for 8!) My kids thought this was "the best store ever" because of the large amounts of samples they inhaled! All in all, it is a good store and one I think I can find deals at. I am going to do some comparisons every week or so, just to get a ball park on where things sit. I am going to ignore the membership fee (which I thought was reasonable at $100/yr because I am sure I spend at least $100 a year on coupons from the paper...I live in a "rural" area and the paper deals just aren't there. I am working on something though, I will share with you soon!) Three items that I caught the prices of and remembered recent sale prices for.

24 pack $6.99, the lowest I have seen these lately is $3 a box, plus catalina $4 when you spend $12, so it averages out to $2 for a box of 6 or $8 for 24. Costco is the better deal here.
Canned veggies, $9.59 for 12 or 80 cents each (S&W brand). Right now canned veggies are 39 cents at Albertsons for Green Giant, which I think is considered a more "expensive brand". I regularly see canned veggies go on sale for around 50 cents anyway. I would have to give this to the grocery store. (By the way, you can still get a rain check through today, if your store is out of the fabulous veggie deal!)

Milk, this one is tricky. Costco $3.96 for 2 gallons. I like the taste of Kirkland milk, but the jug is horrible. I am constantly dribbling down the side. Is there a trick I don't know? Last week Rite Aid had Umpqua milk on sale for $1.99/gallon and this week Fred Meyer had Mountain Dairy milk on sale for $1.99/gallon. So, I think this deal is basically a wash. However, I don't know if I will be buying the milk again just because of the jug?
I will compare more each week as I explore. I still didn't find the "diapers" and I really curious about that price!

Catalina Madness!

I was really going to skip Albertsons this week, but then I realized I had $13 in catalinas that expired today, so off we (3 kids included) went. I only bought 11 things (5 granola, 5 fruit snacks, and the $10 gift card to use my $10 P&G promo coupon) and I got back 12 catalina coupons! There were some good ones too, be on the lookout for these great coupons.
  1. $1 off Lean Cuisine
  2. $1.50 off Gerber Yogurt (don't forget the try me free peelies)
  3. another $1 off Gerber Yogurt
  4. FREE Idahoan mashed potatoes pouch!
  5. 50 cents off Gerber Graduates
  6. $2 off any Personal Wash item (should make for a nice freebie!)
  7. $8 off $80
  8. $2 off Cranberry Raisinets (also should make for a cheap treat!)
  9. my 50 Box Top points
  10. my $3 Cat
  11. my $3.50 Cat
  12. 20% off Payless purchase
So the trip was worth it! I don't understand how sometimes I spend almost $60 and get one or none and other days I spend under $10 and get 10-15 catalinas. By, the way I know the picture is small, I was preventing fraud and also you see why I have a coupon blog and not a photography one!

Costco is here

Well, ever since I moved to Roseburg in 2002, I have been hearing how "Costco is coming." The day is finally here. Tomorrow at 8:00 am the doors of the Roseburg Costco will be officially open. I am sure it will be crazy! I myself am going to wait a few days/weeks to check it out. I just wanted to let you know a few rules and things to think about while shopping at the warehouse stores.

1) They don't except manufacturer's coupons. Only there own Costco coupons.
2) Quantity of item you are getting, be sure to compare unit prices or price per ounce to make sure you are still getting a good deal. Check expiration dates, a lot of time you may not use the whole thing before it expires. You will probably be able to find better deals using coupons at grocery stores on many items.
3) You have to factor in the cost of membership, although I am sure there will be lots of promos and maybe even trial memberships, remember to factor in the cost of the membership in your budget to make sure it is still a good deal for you.
4) Costco is a danger zone for spending...you will never leave with one item, and since the items are higher priced since they are so large, it becomes very easy to spend hundreds of dollars quickly!

*And remember I have read more than once on other coupon blogs that coupon divas have "let their membership lapse"....

Do you use Costco? What do you think?

What I have been up to...

Remember how I told you like three months ago that we were getting ready to move into our new house? Well, we finally have our occupancy permit and our notice on the rental has been given. So, I have been a blog slacker, but a busy blog slacker. I have been gettting ready for my garage sale! I have been going through each room one by one and gutting everything. I don't want to move a bunch of trash and junk! Here are my two piles...the pictures dont' do it justice, they are HUGE! Almost 10 bins of kid clothes alone!
I haven't even gotten to my 6 year olds room yet or the garage, yikes! I am hoping to do well enough to help with my some new furniture or at least some school clothes. Well, that is my progress, at least the closets are clean, the rest of the house not so much as it has been badly neglected and kid cluttered while I was going through things. Today, my plan is to catch up on the house and get to the Albertsons matchups. Wish me luck!

Rite Aid Recap

Good news, my coupon diva friends, Rite Aid updated their coupon policy in clear, precise language. Click here for the full copy. (Thanks Hip 2 Save!) Several things are clearly explained:
  • $5/$25 is before any coupons
  • B1G1 free sales can be combined with a B1G1 Free coupon
  • You CAN stack in ad, video values, and manufacturer's coupons
  • You can use as many + Up rewards as you want per transaction, just as long as your total doesn't go negative!
  • :)

Also there is a new $5/$25 coupon at redplum.com, print it twice, it doesn't expire until 12/31/10!

I did a great job with my deals this week, after + Ups and SCRs, I spent only $5.04 for all of that above and that includes $11.99 vitamins that I didn't have a coupon for! Also I did another mini transaction to get the Spin Brushes for my kids, not the greatest deal ever, but it did qualify for the dental SCR and made my kids happy, so still a success.

  1. Added $21.43 to my cash from a reimbursement
  2. Spent $10.03 from my cash envelope, and $10.62 for toothbrushes out of pocket-forgot envelope :(
  3. Retail Amount to date: $1613.90
  4. Amount spent out of pocket in 2010: $199.58

August Monthly Deals

August is here and so are some deals, here is what you can find on sale this month.

  1. Air conditioners, lawn mowers, and yard equipment, they will go on sale to make room for fall items.
  2. Back to school: fall fashions, school supplies and computers. Lots of great deals here and a good time to stock up on art & craft supplies for the whole year. Be sure you get the supply list from the school though, because some schools require specific brands and sizes.
  3. Camping equipment, deep discounts just before labor day!
